The current fight for melee is: Helm of neitiznot, Amulet of Strength, Dragon platelegs Fighter Torso. I was looking at either getting an Dragon platebody for better defence or the DFS, for Defence and the str bonus.

Just pray to Prossy and Legs for prayer bonus, and pray for protection melee/(mage/range according to the task). In the end, you'll be able to get fury or even glory. Glory is the best choice if you can't be effed to spend 9m for an amulet. Fury offers very good defence statistics when compared to the ammy.. It also has better stats than glory.. Many sals believe that fury should be a must but glory is equally good.
Dragon Defender over dfs because of atk bonuses. Since you're not able to pay cash expl, ring zerker since the prayer bonus cuts down the amount of ppots that are used.. And the emergency free run, teles and ability to re-alch the crap that you get is impressive.
If you're like me, and like grinding melee, Torags platebody, Torags legs. The two together cost about 800k-1m.. Reduce to 0 in 15 hrs.. Together, they cost 170k according to IIRC.. Imagine that you're buying Dplate.. Do you know that d plate costs around 9m? Torags have almost 2 times more defence (Iirc that it is the best defensive armour available).. The best thing about it? Its frikkin ' sexy!
If you have 9m spent to repair torags, u can make use of both for the total amount of 843.75 hrs. (more than enough time to max melee ) and max slayer )... This is the most powerful shizzle you'll get.. It's less expensive if you make use of cheap RS gold an armour stand within your house. I don't see why it isn't worth using them.
