Star Sports have won exclusive rights to media rights of Indian cricket worldwide for next 10 years. Hotstar is expected to telecast Indian Premier League (IPL) for 2019 and future years and also ICC Cricket World Cup should be telecast on Hotstar. If you are in UK, is will just be Hotstar apart from Sky Sports that would show IPL and ICC Cricket Worls Cup live. Hotstar also shows Ranji Trophy matches, Pro Kabaddi league, Hockey World Cup and many more sporting events. They have not officially published a sports schedule for 2019 yet though.
Hotstar - Indian / Asian web based streaming app has been launched in United Kingdom now. Hotstar is massively popular in India with young Indians who prefer web based online content on the go on their mobile phones or tablet rather than traditional TV sets. Hotstar is part of the STAR India Pvt Ltd and hence the app provides exclusive access to STAR TV channels like STAR Plus, STAR World, Life OK, Channel V, EPIC TV and STAR Sports channel group.

Hotstar Review and subscription cost
We have done a detailed first hand review of the Hotstar App in UK and have found it to be a good option to watch asian TV Hindi shows and bollywood movies but especially great for watching live sports. Considering Sky Sports have exclusive rights to telecast most of the live sports / cricket content in the UK, Hotstar provides a good alternative. The ice on the cake is the pricing. Where you would be required to pay around £40 per month for subscribing to Sky Sports packages in UK (over the base packaged, usually £20 monthly), Hotstar is very modestly priced at £59 for annual subscription.

Do I need a TV Licence to watch Hotstar
UK law makes any live media content being watched require a TV license paid for. This also applies for live TV Streaming on any app being used on mobiles, tablets, laptops/desktops or TV sets (basically any smart device). SO yes you need a UK TV License to be able to watch Hotstar content in UK.

Hotstar App
You can download Hotstar app from your Android mobile play store or iOS app store for free (though you need to pay in app (through itunes for Apple) to watch any content. Unfortunately there is no Hotstar TV app currently to be downloaded directly on your Smart TV or Android TV. You will need to cast videos from Hotstar app on mobile / tablet or laptops onto TV (with Chromecast / GoogleCast) - of course your TV and smart device will need to be on the same WiFi network.
